The Whitehouse Gallery is a contemporary Fine Art and Craft gallery in Kirkcudbright, South West Scotland. Opened in 2004 and centrally situated in Dumfries and Galloway’s Artists’ Town, The Whitehouse Gallery has gained a solid reputation as a premier art gallery in South West Scotland.
Featuring both local and internationally based artists in mixed exhibitions throughout the year, The Whitehouse gallery has much to offer anyone looking to buy contemporary art and craft. Besides paintings, The Whitehouse Gallery also exhibits sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, glass, bronze, baskets, wood, furniture, card, prints and more.
Please use the website to browse through the collection and find out further information about the current exhibition on show, or paintings and applied arts and crafts for sale. If you cannot make a visit to the gallery in person, we are happy to provide information and, wherever possible, sell art over the phone or by email.
The Whitehouse Gallery is part of the Scottish Arts Council ‘Own Art’ scheme, whereby art can be purchased with no interest over a ten month period. Please ask us for more information regarding this.
Kirkcudbright the Artists’ Town
The ancient Royal Burgh of Kirkcudbright in South West Scotland was once an artists colony, home to distinguished artists, including E.A Hornel, Jessie M King, E.A Taylor and Charles Oppenheimer. Many artists, including the Scottish Colourists and Glasgow Boys also frequented Kirkcudbright during the summer months, where they took advantage of the famous ‘galloway light’.
The ‘artists town’ of today is alive with its own generation of painters and craftworkers. The light is still as painter friendly as ever, and the rows of pastel coloured houses, surrounding coastal landscapes and breathtaking countryside give Kirkcudbright a certain charm which sets it apart from other locations. The Whitehouse Gallery is one of the many art galleries in Kirkcudbright, but it has gained a loyal support network of art enthusiasts, who love to visit the gallery to purchase art, or simply to browse the exhibitions. . 'Catherine F Rayner & Kelly Stewart' will run from Saturday 24th May - Sunday 29th June, 2008. Doors will open from 11am. The Whitehouse Gallery opens Mon-Sat, 10am-5pm, Sun 12pm-5pm.
