Janet Cleghorn

Janet Cleghorn’s mixed media still life paintings feature treasures collected over the years, or just everyday objects.   These arrangements are looked on from an aerial perspective.  The importance of the fabrics and their construction within the paintings reflect her past in textile design.  The aerial view allows the shapes to be flattened and refined and traditional subject matter takes on a quirky, more contemporary feel.

Janet obtained an honours degree in Industrial Design (specialising in woven textiles) from the Scottish College of Textiles (now part of Heroit Watt University) and then worked in the textile industry for 14 years.  Working from home, Galashiels in the Scottish borders, she has concentrated on painting for the last few years building up her profile with pieces exhibited in group exhibitions across Scotland.

Prior to starting painting “seriously” at the start of 2012, Janet’s background was in textiles. She obtained a BA (hons) in Industrial Design from the Scottish College of Textiles (now part of Herriot Watt University)  and graduated in 1995, then spent the next 15 years working in the textile industry as a designer.  During the degree drawing and painting was an important part in the development of  design projects.  During her years working in the industry Janet continued to be an occasional painter.
