Elaine Wilson graduated in the mid 1980s from Glasgow School of Art specialising in Embroidered and Woven textiles. She won the Incorporation of Weavers prize and was a recipient of a travelling scholarship. She completed a number of textile commissions for private and public clients before going into education where she has worked for over 20 years teaching art in primary and secondary schools around Scotland. During this time Elaine has continued to develop her skills in textile media and more recently she has returned to her love for stitched textiles to produce a series of embroideries inspired by recent visits to India, Turkey, Italy and Ethiopia.
Elaine’s rich and vibrant textile pieces combine her passion for vibrant colour and rich texture with a love for hand stitching. Elaine uses silks and threads in the same way that a painter uses brushstrokes to recreate he essence of the place rather than an accurate representation of a specific location.
