My work has been described as “stunning collage landscapes of birds and animals, beautifully evocative, tactile and thoroughly magical. They have a sense of place and time that is beyond their subject, and a spirit that renders them magnetic”.
The work in this show is again based on wildlife from the Kyle of Sutherland, in particular a piece of triple S.I. ground, which is largely undisturbed wetland fringed with oak & rowan trees & some small fields. Just about everything turns up there sooner or later.
I was educated at the Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 1983 (BA hons, first class and MA). I worked initially as an illustrator for, among others, BBC Scotland Gaelic children’s TV, Scotland on Sunday and Canongate Press. I lectured at the Glasgow School of Art and designed theatre posters for 7:84 ,Tag and Theatre Highland, as well as designing sets, posters and costumes for Wildcat and Hallaballoo theatre companies.
I took a break in the late 1980s and travelled extensively in Kenya, Asia and Australia, where I transformed my illustration skills into fine art collage paintings.
In 1995 I moved to Tain in the Highlands of Scotland, which is a great base for my landscape/wildlife painting.
