Name: Pamela Grace

Medium:Painting, printmaking

Pamela Grace is an artist and print-maker living and working in Galloway. After training at Galashiels College of Textiles and Design, Pamela worked as a knitwear designer, first in industry and then establishing her own knitwear label.

Drawing and painting have always been central to Pamela’s creative work and she has established a second career, teaching classes in art and design in further education in Glasgow and Central Scotland and locally in community education.

More recently Pamela’s art work has moved into print-making, translating her drawings and sketches into other forms. Her work makes use of a combination of traditional and contemporary print-making techniques including etching, drypoint and intaglio type methods.

Pamela has found the range of print making processes allow her to reflect and focus the inspiration she derives from the local landscape, her family and the life of the small Galloway Village where she lives.

“My work celebrates the patterns and textures created by chance in corners of long established gardens. Working on site in all seasons,  I sometimes sketch speedily against the elements before completing the picture in the warmth of my kitchen. Spring and summer allow me to make myself a more leisurely part of the landscape.

Working with inks enables me to combine detailed drawing  alongside layers of intense and  translucent washes,  capturing the ever shifting light and colours of the day .”
