Peter Tudhope attended Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester Art Schools gaining an Honours Degree and Masters Degree in Fine Art. His working practice consists of responding to his immediate surroundings and translating the experience into visual thoughts. This can take many forms and can be about the weather, the light cast on urban and rural landscape forms, power of the wind or the beauty of nature. Drawings done on site are further developed in the studio using a variety of drawing and painting materials in a gestural, intuitive and expressive manner.
I 2014 Peter was selected as the first Ayrshire based artist to be artist in residence at the Princes’ Drawing School (now The Royal Drawing School) based at Dumfries House. Peter is also an art tutor working with all ages and experiences. Over the last year he has taught workshops for senior school students who wish to attend art college and taught expressive drawing courses including life drawing. In September he will be the first artist in residence on the newly formed Newnan Artist in Residence Program in Georgia, USA for 6 weeks.
Many paintings and all drawings are worked directly from life. Recently working not only in his local Ayrshire landscape but on the shoreline, life room and in working quarries. He is fascinated by the light and subtle colouring created by natural light.
