Sketchbooks play a pivotal role in developing and exploring ideas. Cafes, streets, still life and figures provide visual stimulation, the act of connecting with the subject matter is explored in mixed mediums.
“Pass the Sauce” represents current working processes. Thick impasto oil paint is applied using palette knives and brushes, creating a textural surface.
The nature of still life is ephemeris. The HP and Ketchup bottles represent familiar British objects on a tablecloth where food and flowers are placed in a haphazard manner. The scene depicts a moment in time, something is about to happen or something has happened.
The tablecloth is a metaphor, representing the political landscape.
