Shark Alley is the creation of Sarah Kelly, a Brighton-based artist who has been working for nearly thirty years in a variety of creative fields including illustration, textile design and mosaic. Her work has been featured in a wide range of magazines and books, as well as a Gold Medal winning garden by designer Kaffe Fassett for The Chelsea Flower Show (mosaic) and in the V&A Museum, London (recycled collage for the show ‘Green Images’).
Sarah set up Shark Alley in 2010 to return to hands-on making after several years of working digitally. As a committed jewellery-lover of many years standing, this seemed a good place to start. The media may often vary, but the inspiration of wildlife and pattern remain constant.
A love of animals and birds has played a large part in Sarah’s life since childhood, as well as a firm belief that there is nothing more beautiful in this world than nature. It provides a constant source of inspiration and her work aims to distil these natural forms into colourful graphic shapes.
Her latest collection of painted wooden brooches is inspired by the faded and weathered wood of the Sussex coast and the sun-bleached colours of the Mediterranean.
