Forthcoming Spring Exhibition

DREAMING IN COLOUR

2nd March – 20th April 2024

As Spring approaches, The Whitehouse Gallery in Kirkcudbright once again shakes off the Winter with an exhibition of colourful and uplifting artworks, in a wide range of mediums, styles and subject matter. Being the first mixed group exhibition of the year, there will be more than usual with brand new work to fill both floors of the gallery.

‘Dreaming in Colour’ will open on Saturday 2nd March for the preview, doors open from 11am – 5pm.  Following this, the exhibition will be open as normal until 20th April, Mon-Sat 10am – 4pm.

Exhibiting for the first time is Glasgow School of Art graduate Charles Randak, who has a love of painting the West of Scotland, with which he has a deep connection. Jan Radnan is another new artist to the gallery, who is exhibiting a selection of landscapes alongside some flower studies in this exhibition.

Anne Butler is exhibiting some of her colourful semi-abstract and abstract paintings after many years, alongside returning artists Deborah Phillips, Suzanne Stuart Davies, Victoria Wylie and Lizzie Farey.

We are also delighted to also welcome back award winning artist Helen Glassford RSW to the gallery.

We look forward to welcoming Erinclare Scrutton for the first time, with a beautiful mix of work in both oil and charcoal.  Figures, landscape and still life will be on show by Jackie Henderson, who is returning with a new collection of her popular paintings, whilst Ben Brotherton is sending us some of his evocative figurative paintings for this exhibition.

Flower studies and still life will be a-plenty in this exhibition, with new artists Aine Divine RSW, Jenny Martin RSW and Morag Stevenson delivering an interesting and contrasting mix of styles, alongside gallery regular Pamela Grace who will deliver a mix of original prints and drawings.

We are looking forward to welcoming highly regarded wildlife artist, Darren Woodhead MA(RCA) SWLA, with a selection of his beautifully sensitive watercolour originals, capturing birds and other wildlife. He will be joined by returning Kirkcudbright based artist Fiona Stansfield and Dumfries based Gwen Adair, with a selection of birds and landscapes.

Kate Bentley RI SWA will be exhibiting a new collection of her sought after paintings in this exhibition, once again surprising us with a different subject matter.

Moving towards textiles, Gyllian Thomson will be exhibiting with us for the first time, showing a mix of her tapestries alongside original preparatory paintings which are created in the process.

As always we will have new collections of ceramics by Edit Juhasz, Helen Harrison, Laura Crosland, Natalie Bell and Sandie Cosens, alongside sculptural ceramics by Tony Laverick and Pratima Kramer.  There will also be recycled sculpture by Vicky Swift, wire sculpture by Avneet Chjeema, driftwood sculpture by Lynn Muir and glass sculpture by Elizabeth Welch. New jewellery will be included from Quench & Pickle, alongside regular designers Sheena McMaster and Melissa James.  And not forgetting a brand new collection of handmade cushions by Jo Gallant.

The new exhibition will be available to view online from 29th February.
