Autumn Exhibition

It won’t be long until the seasons start to change once again, and the beauty of Autumn takes hold. This exhibition celebrates this shift, with collections of artworks drawing from nature’s wonderful and varied palette.

‘Nature’s Palette’ will open for its preview on Saturday 9th September, doors will open from 11am – 5pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Naturally there will be a mix of landscapes from a selection of Scottish painters, from abstract to traditional, in a range of styles and mediums.

New to the gallery, Dunbar based Eleanor Cunningham is delivering some of her abstract paintings, which are influenced by her surroundings and the changing seasonal colours and textures in the Scottish landscape. Like Eleanor, Annie Green and Tricia Barna are focused on evoking a sense of place in their work, and are greatly inspired by their surrounding landscape.

Another new artist to the gallery, Phil Edwards was a semi-finalist on Landscape Artist of the Year and has exhibited in New York, London and all over Scotland.  His drawings and paintings are presently inspired by his climbing and hiking in the Scottish highlands, with light being the most important element of his work. Phil is ‘fiercely proud of Scotland’s natural beauty’.

This is the first time that Borders based artist Deborah Fallas is exhibiting with us. She loves to paint Scottish landscapes she has experienced and been a part of, producing colourful paintings with bold quick expressive brushstrokes and built up layers.

North Berwick based Fee Dickson Reid returns with her striking expressive paintings, mostly on a larger scale. Her atmospheric seascapes are filled with a sense of calm and peace, with big expansive skies and a love of playing with light and reflection.  Fee is based in North Berwick, where much of her inspiration is from.

Margaret Evans is based in Highland Perthshire,  an area of outstanding beauty which offers plenty of inspiration for her work.  Margaret will be exhibiting some of what she does best; paintings capturing the light, drama and colour of the Scottish landscape.

We usually exhibit paintings by Clare Flinn, but on this occasion she is sending us some of her wonderful monotypes. Although not hailing from or based in Scotland, Clare loves to visit Scotland and find much inspiration from her trips here, and to her native Ireland. Original prints and paintings will also be on show by returning Glasgow based artist, Johann Booyens.

It’s not just landscapes which are inspired by nature’s palette.

We are delighted that Morag Muir RSW PAI is returning with some of her award winning still life paintings.  In Morag’s words, ‘my paintings interpret everyday objects as actors on a still life stage’.  Still life paintings are also being delivered by Julia MacAulay, whose interests lie in the pattern, colour, shape and texture found in the serendipity of everyday scenarios.

Karen Stamper is delivering some of her abstract collage and mixed media paintings, with a nautical focus.  Karen has a love of peeling paint and old decaying boats, a theme shared with local artist Ross Fulton, who loves to draw and paint derelict buildings and places of interest.

For something a little different, we look forward to a new collection of paintings from wildlife artist Julie Brunn, who has a penchant for painting sighthounds.   Shirley Vauvelle is a ceramic artist we have shown for years, but this is the first time we will be exhibiting some of her mixed media paintings.  Shirley will be sending us a new collection of ceramics and paintings for this exhibition.

Heather Armstrong and Michelle Lowe will also be delivering some new ceramics, whilst new maker to the gallery Katy Quinn will delight us with some of her hand rendered images on glass.  Avneet Cheema is exhibiting some of his wire bird sculptures, and we have new collections of jewellery from Sheena McMaster and Melissa James. Not forgetting new cushions by Jo Gallant! All this, alongside our existing ongoing collections of fine art and craft, there is something for everyone.

The gallery of work will go live online on Thursday 7th September
