Emma Butler Cole Aiken

Born in London 1966

Self-employed stained glass artist

Emma usually makes large stained glass windows but enjoys creating small things for contrast (and a bit of a rest!)

Using leftover pieces of glass from her windows, Emma uses English Antique Glass, the only handmade sheet glass still made in the UK, to make fused glass birds and other objects. This glass has a lively quality and often streaks of different colours running through it, making it a joy to work with.

After the shape is fused, markings, feathers and eyes are painted in the same way as traditional stained glass windows and fired for permanence. Bird legs are made with copper wire.
