Erinclare Scrutton

My creative journey began with an HND in ceramics at Harrogate and a Degree and PostGrad at GSA (1985-91). After art school, I took a different creative path and had a rich 30 year career as a drummer/percussionist.

During a month-long trip and painting course in St Ives I was inspired to return to artmaking and completed a very memorable 2 year course in Contemporary Art Practice at City College Glasgow in 2022. I began exhibiting my work in 2023.

The foundation of my practice continues to be turning up every day and learning through the act of drawing, painting, observation and experimentation. I continually strive to extend my creative language and technical skills and am most interested in finding, harnessing and expressing the energy moment through my work using the figure, portraiture and landscape as inspiration.

In 2024 I undertook a mentorship programme exploring inkmaking, pigments and papermaking using natural materials and created 2 bodies of site specific work, from the Solway Firth, as artist in residence, to celebrate the first year of the Creative Hub in Stranraer and as invited artist for the Big Art Show in Paisley where I made ink from foraged tree materials found in the centre of Paisley and won Best in Show.
