Jan Radnan
I grew up in London and studied at Camberwell Art School.
I continued my studies on a post graduate course in textile technology at Leeds university after which I became an educator.
My career as an Art teacher lasted thirty years eventually retiring to Andalucia in 2006.
The clear light of the south of Spain informed my palette, resulting in landscapes depicting the rugged rural terrain with its wild fig trees and prolific cultivated almond, avocado and lemon trees.
Other inspiration came from the local characters who populated the small mountain village, many of whom had lived there their entire life and were often wonderful spontaneous subjects to paint.
I exhibited work in various galleries in both Granada and Malaga Province.
In 2018 I moved to Perthshire to a very different rural village but still influenced by the immediate environment, producing landscape paintings depicting the agricultural settings of the local farms under a very different sky.
Other areas I’ve had the opportunity to visit such as Tiree, Ardnamurchan and Plockton have become subjects for several of my paintings but I’m equally happy painting pot plants in my own home.
