Julia Poulton

Julia is an abstract expressive oil painter based in North Yorkshire, UK.  Passionate about colour, with an ever-evolving palette, rich textures and dynamic mark making, her work embodies dramatic, ethereal and calming tones.  Through an intuitive process she expresses her emotions as they unfold from one moment to the next.

Letting go of conscious thoughts and intentions and embracing the unknown is what drives this process for Julia and leads to exciting, unexpected results.  Her approach is one of playfulness and curiosity which she believes helps maintain a fresh and energetic feel to her work.

Julia sees her paintings as ethereal, ‘dreamlike’ worlds that invite the viewer in and offer a sense of peace, calm or joy.  Whether it’s through loving the colours, the feel or reminding them of a special place, Julia hopes the viewer will find an emotional connection with her artwork that is meaningful to them.

Julia lives and works from her studio in North Yorkshire. She received a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art at the University of East London in 1994, following which she returned to Yorkshire and after various jobs, overseas travel and raising a family, she pursues her career as a full time painter.
