June Bell

June is a native of Hawick, Scottish Borders, and studied Medicine at Edinburgh University. After some years doing medical work in Africa and Thailand she returned to Scotland, married and settled on the Isle of Lewis where both her children were born.

The family returned to the Borders in 2001 where June worked as a GP in Greenlaw, near Duns.

From 2011 June further developed a life long interest in Art by attending Leith School of Art one day a week over four years. June’s work continues to evolve, using several media, but mainly oil, beeswax, and oil pastel on board where successive layers help to give interest and depth. Her main inspiration is found in the garden and surrounding fields and hedgerows, however, she is also drawn to figurative work, mainly the female face and her daughter (an Art student at Aberdeen) is her usual subject. In this she is not striving for a perfect likeness, but tries to convey a mood or feeling.

June continues to work as a GP, now based in Hawick, and does this part time. She exhibits and sells work in several local galleries.
