Kittie Jones

Kittie Jones is an award-winning artist based in Edinburgh. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University in 2008; she currently works from her studio in Leith and exhibits across the UK. Kittie is a professional member of the Society of Wildlife Artists and Visual Arts Scotland. Her practice focuses on drawing and printmaking – she produces mixed-media drawings on paper, unique multi-layered monotypes and small-edition screen prints. All of her prints are designed and made by hand at Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop where she also teaches workshops.

Kittie is an artist drawn to edges – she regularly finds herself working at the interface between land and sea documenting the shifting landscapes of the Scottish coast. Through her small-edition screen-prints, she is able to translate the energy of the drawn mark into colourful and richly-layered responses. Printmaking allows Kittie to use new processes to capture the movement and energy of time spent looking and drawing outdoors.

She says: ‘The process of drawing is key to my work, it is here that ideas open up and my personal visual language starts to develop. I always start by making drawings on location, in places that catch my eye where the natural world has space to thrive. The expressive language achieved in working quickly outdoors and the need to make clear, bold decisions in print both inform my practice and open up exciting possibilities for working with colour and mark.’
