Linda Irving

I am an artist living and being inspired to create on the beautiful Mull of Galloway where I relocated eight years ago to create my art in the studio and gallery spaces I have developed in the grounds of my home. I teach on site and travel throughout Scotland to teach feltmaking.

My formal training is at degree level in fine art, abstract painting in 1982. This inspired my passion for colour and texture. Some twenty years ago I found fibre and felt making which has a contemporary art platform. I now use this as my primary medium to make images of the sea and landscapes in 2D and 3D inspired by the Scottish landscapes exploring the everchanging colours and textures in sketching, painting and photography. I then develop these findings by creating felt paintings. I offer the viewer the interplay of contrasting and complimentary colours and textures with additional natural embellishments such as silks to achieve my desired results. In using this tactile medium I feel I can show sympathy with the subject producing vibrant and delicately worked pieces which have themselves a symphony of their own. I aim to replicate the original beauty of the sea and landscapes in colour, structure, texture and form with abstraction thus capturing this luscious and vibrant geographical area in medium of felt and fibre which I have developed as a natural extension of my art practice.
