‘Painting holds a central place in my life; as a way to capture things that hold meaning to me, or to share my experience of the world with others. I have always found words difficult, and I am surprised at how naturally and expressively some people can use them. I would certainly rather use visual means to express myself than fumble with words.

My work is rooted in Contemporary Realism, and subjects range widely, from contemplative still lives to quiet landscapes; from the movement and gestures observed in the natural world to deep connections between objects and people. The light on any subject is paramount and will almost always be the first thing that draws me to it. I naturally tend toward a deep observation of objects, landscapes, people and how the play of light  and shade reveals nuances and subtleties, which in turn I hope to bring out in the painting.’
