Margaret Kathleen Hume

Based in Fife, Margaret Kathleen Hume, in a former life a P.A., yoga teacher, mother and wife, is now following her passion for art and design.

Margaret studied painting with Jacqueline Watt at the Open College of the Arts, followed some years later by a 4 year City and Guilds Stitched Textiles Course with Tutor Sheila Mortlock, formerly of DJCAD (who actively encouraged her obsession with figures, friendships and design). This journey has allowed Margaret to incorporate her love of design, female figures, friendships and storytelling in her work today, an approach she has used over the last 10 years when designing textiles.

Her technique is based on ‘palimpsest’, a mixture of collage, text, acrylics, inks and pattern to create the layered story behind the final image we show to the world, which she hopes will resonate with the viewer.

In this collection, Margaret is focusing on the female figure and friendship, using colours that in still hope, freshness, strength and new beginnings after the last two years in lockdown.
