Philip Raskin

Philip Raskin studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Due to his father’s untimely passing, he did not complete his course and went directly into the world of commerce, not lifting a paint brush again for thirty-five years. Upon returning to his easel, he soon established a singular, instantly recognisable handwriting and a particular gift for capturing light; it is the latter, whether consciously or subconsciously, which resonates with the viewer.

He exploits his chosen medium of acrylic paint to its fullest extent, using effects ranging from those more usually akin to water colour to the heavy impasto application of the material. The combination of the two techniques on a single canvas magically depicts the textures and indeed the very essence of his native Scotland.

Based in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, Philip has steadily accrued a loyal band of private collectors. He exhibits regularly in London, Hong Kong and Singapore and is represented onboard P&O and Cunard. His original paintings and limited editions can be found in High Street galleries throughout the length and breadth of the United Kingdom.
