CANVAS & CLAY

The Whitehouse Gallery presents an exhibition focusing solely upon paintings and pottery, with a carefully selected group of artists and makers.

The exhibition preview opening is from 11am – 5pm on Saturday 30th April.  All are welcome to attend, there will be complementary refreshments.

We welcome five new painters to this exhibition;  Al Bell, Annie Green, Ben Brotherton, Fee Dickson Reid & Roberta Fulford.

Al Bell is a Scottish artist who has recently moved into painting after a successful career in design.  His love of the Scottish landscape is evident in his paintings, which he interprets beautifully in oils. This collection focuses upon forests and woodlands, somewhere Al spends much of his time walking the dog and cycling.

Annie Green is an abstract landscape painter, who like Al, is inspired by the Scottish landscape. In her paintings, Annie layers colour, mark and remembered shapes to evoke a sense of the place, and her experience of being within it.

Fee Dickson Reid is another Scottish artist who creates expressive, atmospheric landscapes which evoke a sense of calm and peace. Unlike Fee, Roberta Fulford is inspired by the wild skies, seas and wilderness surrounding her Shetland home, with paintings created as a response to her immersion in the ever-changing drama and beauty of the landscape.

Moving away from the landscape, Ben Brotherton lives and works in in the Gers (SW France). With a love of painting the human form and still life studies, Ben has built a reputation for his distinctive style.

We are looking forward to welcoming the return of Alison Dickson, Clare Flinn, Jane Blair, John Paul Raine, Julie Brunn, Kate Bentley SWA, Linda Park, Madeleine Gardiner, Mairi Stewart, Margaret Evans, Morag Muir RSW PAI and Pen Reid.  There will also be some framed prints by Johann Booyens.

We have  brand new collections of ceramics from a range of potters, including slab built, sculptural and thrown pots of all shapes and sizes.  Makers include Anastasia Hille, Chris Taylor, Heather Armstrong, Helen Kemp, Helen Martino, John Scott, Karen Lainson, Laura Crosland, Mary Gladstone, Pauline Montgomery and Rowena Gilbert.
