The Whitehouse Gallery is delighted to be hosting its fourteenth annual Summer Exhibition, with an inspiring mix of quality work by new and established artists and makers spread over two floors.
The exhibition preview opening will be from 11am-5pm on Saturday 30th June. All are welcome to attend, and enjoy a glass of bubbly and complementary chocolates from the Cocoabean Company.
We are spoiled for choice with the mix of artists in this exhibition, each providing a rich mix of landscape, still life, figurative and wildlife paintings. These include Andy Cross, Cecilia Cardiff, Georgina McMaster, Gordon Wilson, Helen Tabor, Heloise Maylin, Ian Elliot, James Fraser RSW (featured image), James Somerville Lindsay, Janet Cleghorn and Morag Muir.
We also welcome some new artists to the gallery, including Layla Rose, Pauline Patrick & Sally Anne Fitter.
Pauline Patrick is a Glasgow School of Art graduate, who developed a successful career in art education, but is now a full time painter. Her subject matter ranges from her native Scotland to further afield. Excellent draughtsmanship and thoughtful composition uphold the use of rich colour applied with bold brushstrokes, to create distinctive, expressive pieces of work.
Layla Rose is a contemporary Scottish painter who creates unique portraits and scenes of everyday life that lie between figuration and abstraction. Her recent paintings examine the poignant moment in any child’s development: the moment of self-awareness and reflection.
Sally Anne Fitter’s background in textile design in evident in her use of pattern and colour. Sally uses collage and gold leaf to enhance the vibrant paintings, by layering and scraping the paint to create texture and add interest to her still life work.
We are getting some really interesting and diverse applied art and craft for the summer. Amanda Anderson returns with her extremely popular mosaics, alongside Barbara Franc with some of her recycled tin & fabric creatures. Lynn Muir will be giving us a new collection of her driftwood handpainted figures, whilst Merope Pease returns with some driftwood boats. Ceramics will be from both Mollie Brotherton and Rowena Gilbert, with illustrated porcelain pieces by Wendy Kershaw and sculpture by Shirley Vauvelle. We are getting a new piece of furniture and bowls from Tom Cooper, and some new glass from Debbie Lord.
New to the gallery, Netherlands based Ans Vink will delight with some of her humorous and quirky ceramics figures, Gregg Anston Race will be introducing some of his glass and Elaine Wilson will be exhibiting some of her framed textile pieces for the first time.
