About the Artist
Artist Statement Scotland holds a special place in my heart, and I have had several artist residencies and research trips responding to the dramatic landscape and effects of the light and ever changing weather conditions. The work exhibited in ‘Sense of Place’ follows my latest research trip to Scotland in January 2019 in very wintery conditions. The first morning as I opened the door of the campervan it was a special moment, dazzled by the astonishing colour of the icy silent world before me, the reflections in the loch and deep shadows carving amazing shapes through the mountains. Working directly onto to canvases started ‘en plein air’ and from a series of sketches, this body of work reflects the intensity and immediacy of what I experienced during those few days.
