About the Artist
Mairi Stewart is a Scottish artist based in Edinburgh. She studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art followed by a year at Moray House College of Education, before following a career in teaching. Mairi is now a professional artist working full time from her Edinburgh studio.
Enjoying the endless possibilities of balancing colour and shape in her Still Life work Mairi works mainly in acrylic on canvas or board and finds a constant source of inspiration from her surroundings. She has a contemporary vision and her colourful paintings are an infusion of her observations and imagination. Her work is not literal and using a flattened perspective, familiar patterns, combined with a strong colour palette she strives to capture the essence of a memory. Mairi is an Artist member of Paisley Art Institute and exhibits widely in leading galleries throughout the UK. She also has work in private collections in both the UK and USA.
