Lucy Dorothy Nichols is an English paper and textile artist. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Lucy’s creative practice has had a slightly unconventional start. However, after returning to University following a career break, Lucy studied Visual Communications and was able to build upon her years of experience in making with some formal teaching.
Through her paper sculptures, Lucy seeks to create pieces that have a story to tell, be that humorous, informative or thought provoking. Her latest pieces feature works inspired by titles from the Observer Pocket Book series. Using a variety of materials, including reclaimed papers, thread and wire, Lucy explores the many varied ways of working with paper in order to bring each book to life. Lucy documents the processes involved in the making of each paper sculpture through social media, making the creation of each piece a story in itself.
