About the Artist
Artist Statement As an artist my practice is rooted in landscape. I walk, draw, paint, film and write about my encounters whilst walking.
The work I created for the Whitehouse Gallery is specific to Galloway. It centres on a walk from a friends house in Borgue to the shores at Carrick. I was particularly drawn to the soft lushness of the landscape, the way one is drawn always to the shore and how it unwinds itself in gentle undulations and curving paths.
I felt the presence of other landscape artists, and visited the Kirkcudbright galleries to look at the wonderful collection of nineteenth and twentieth century landscape painters being particularly drawn to Jessie M King and Ernest Taylor in particular which provided further inspriration. I hope I have managed to capture something of this place, and feel certain I shall return to continue my walking and painting this quietly beautiful landscape.
