About the Artist
Mairi Stewart is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, who retired to paint full time in 2009 following a successful teaching career.
Currently based in Edinburgh, Mairi now works from her studio, creating the contemplative arrangements that she has become known for.
Mairi’s work is an infusion of her daily observations, thoughts and imagination. She works intuitively, often using flowers or selected objects as poetic accents within the work and enjoys the endless possibilities created by balancing colour, shape and pattern within her arrangements. Working mainly in Acrylics on either canvas or board allows Mairi to layer and glazer her colours, creating a depth to the colour and surface texture.
The overall aim of the work is to capture the original essence of a memory within the final painting, and invite the viewer to develop their own narrative.
