Gemma completed her degree in Visual Communications at Birmingham University and then migrated to the sunny South Coast, where she gained an MA in Illustration from Brighton University.
Initially Gemma worked using her illustrative skills designing prints and cards, many of which have been published internationally, in 2008 she was pleased to receive a nomination for the best card design by the Greeting Card Association.
In the last few years Gemma has added a whole new dimension to her work by changing to three-dimensional pieces, so far her subjects have included birds, dogs and dolls. Each piece is created from a mixture of metal, wire, paper, and paper clay and then painted with watercolours and acrylic; with the dolls she also uses vintage fabrics and jewellery.
Gemma spends many hours walking by the sea with her partner Neil and their young sons Reuben and Theo, she is continually inspired by the textures and colours on the beach, many of the happy dogs that she sees playing there have become immortalized in her pieces.
Some of her passions in life include travel, art and rummaging round flea markets.
