About the Artist
My work is concerned with drawing attention to things not always considered typical art subjects. In particular I am drawn to objects or places that have pattern or beauty because of functional design as opposed to any deliberate aesthetic choice. During our recent lockdowns the importance of finding interest within our local spaces has become more important than ever.
It is important to me that my work shows the beauty of the subject merely by presenting it as it is rather than heightening or exaggerating for artistic or dramatic effect.
I want to make images that have a quietness and stillness to them that many of the images competing for our attention in daily life lack.
Among many others my influences include the painters Edward Hopper, Charles Oppenheimer and George Shaw and photographers Edward Burtynsky and Thomas Demand. I also consider amateur and documentary photography to be extremely influential on my work.
