Artist Statement  A lifelong obsession for seeking out the overgrown, neglected and forgotten, whether it be buildings, trees, vehicles, tools or household objects, has led me to these recent works. I have a fascination for corrosion and peeling paint, seeing a beauty and charm in rusted and worn patinas that I feel is often overlooked.

I have drawn from an early age; totally self taught, and decades of experimentation and perseverance finally led me to acrylics, my preferred medium.

I try not to get bogged down in detail as I prefer a painterly finish rather than a photo realism, but sometimes it doesn’t work and my drawing roots find me working tighter towards the end of a piece.

The objects in this work are just a few examples from a vast collection of ‘tat’ accumulated over a lifetime of hoarding, and are painted actual size from life; the glove box was my Mother’s she used for jewellery, and the driving license was my Fathers. There is no relevance between the objects in each painting, other than they are glimpses of my childhood; simply a random collection of found objects which describe to me a ‘sense of place.’
