‘With my roots firmly in the Scottish Borders I feel passionate about its richly coloured landscape of rolling hills, patchwork quilt of fields, sudden dark shapes of woodland, and the River Tweed twisting and turning throughout. With all this, plus the dramatic headland of St Abbs and the wonderful coastline stretching from East Lothian to Northumberland, only a few miles from where I live and a lovely cottage garden to tend, I have a wealth of subject matter on my doorstep.

I am also drawn to the rugged west coast of Scotland and the Hebridean Isles of Skye and Harris where rapidly changing weather conditions result in exciting, dramatic lighting which I find magical and inspiring.

Walking and cycling through the countryside, absorbing the colours and lighting,I return to my studio with these stored images and allow each painting to acquire its own momentum trusting intuition to release the imagination.

I paint in a free and fluid style using watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media, building up many layers and always searching deeply for an emotional response, leading the mind beyond what the eye perceives.’
