About the Artist

“I am a painter deeply rooted in the natural landscape, always searching through the subjects that grip me, for moments of pure inspiration in paint where imagination,  intuition and physical beauty combine to both surprise and delight me.”

Kevan was born in Lancashire in 1968 and received a BA (Hons) in painting from Loughborough College of Art and Design. He has since dedicated himself to landscape painting and the pursuit of “pure, untainted natural beauty”.

He has travelled extensively over Great Britain and Europe in search of such inspirational landscapes, but it is the wild, majestic landscapes of the Scottish Highlands that have claimed his heart, and which draw him back relentlessly from his home in Dumfries & Galloway.

“I am widely travelled in my search for inspirational subject matter, having hiked and sketched in the Scottish Western Highlands from the Trossachs in the south to Ardnamurchan in the west and as far north as Inverpolly Forest. I have also toured the French and Swiss Alps and the Italian Dolomites, have walked extensively in Cumbria’s Lake District and Eden Valley, and have explored the lakelands of County Kerry and Connemara in Ireland.

He now works mainly in acrylics, as these enable a versatility of approach and technique that help him to constantly find new, fresh  ways of expressing the deep-rooted feelings that the landscape conjures in him.

Kevan has exhibited widely and has won awards for his painting  and continues to exhibit nationwide.

Kevan helped to set up the Scottish Showcase gallery in the artists’ town of Kirkcudbright, and worked there for 3 years as manager and self-employed picture framer.

He has undertaken a year’s artist residency at a grammar school in Loughborough, acting as working example and advisor to art students. Kevan has received awards for his painting and was twice chosen to exhibit in a national show of graduate artists’ works in London.
