Doora Ceramics

Doora ceramics explore what common objects can mean to us. Artist Doreen Jakob brings together storytelling, collage and functional design. Doreen makes ceramics that are infused with meaning by building collage works and layering multiple, personal, materials – heirloom laces, vintage hand embroidery, meaningful plants – on clay.

She often works directly with clients, using their materials and making bespoke work for them that connects them to their own history and brings meaningful, lasting objects into their lives (e.g. a grandmother’s crochet or wedding dress, flowers from a special event). Vintage textiles and special plants tell stories and connect people to their past, to family members, to historic events.

Doora ceramics pieces are food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe. They are artworks that are usable and generate memories, connectedness and daily joy. Doreen holds a PhD from Humboldt University Berlin. She currently resides in Durham, North Carolina, USA.
