About the Artist

I am a painter from Selkirk in the Scottish Borders, working primarily in oils for over 15 years. At 19, I studied classical drawing and painting at The Swedish Academy of Art (SARA) in Stockholm, later joining the faculty for four years. I also studied at the Nerdrum School in Norway, observing Odd Nerdrum’s process firsthand.

Painting, for me, is a meditative act—whether creating a quick plein air sketch or a larger studio work, I focus on the subject that inspires me and how to translate it into something beautiful and emotive. I work with brushes, knives, rags, and anything that brings light and colour to the canvas, always experimenting and learning.

The natural world is my greatest inspiration, influenced by my parents’ work with trees and plants, as well as by painters such as Mancini, Raeburn, Fechin, Fantin-Latour, and Richard Schmid.

Statement for “Three Part Harmony”
It’s an honour to exhibit alongside Ewan McClure and Lewis Mackenzie at the Whitehouse Gallery in Kirkcudbright. While we share similar inspirations and a love of paint, we each express them differently. For this show, I’ve chosen landscapes from the Scottish Borders, still lifes, and floral works, including a new painting of Greengate Close—one of my favourite spots in Kirkcudbright, cherished for both its beauty and rich artistic history.
